WHY IS CAESAR SALAD SO CALLED?
What do you associate the word Caesar with? For most people, it evokes two memories: the Roman emperor and the salad. Interestingly, they have nothing to do with each other. With Ancient Rome, the dish connects only the presence of Romano in the recipe.
How did Caesar salad appear?
The discoverer was Caesar Cardini. Itself comes from Italy. At the end of World War I, he visited America several times and, finally, in 1919 he finally moved there. He tried to work in a restaurant in California. But a year later a prohibition was introduced in the United States, and this significantly undermined the income of all places of public catering. Then Cardini moves to Mexico and settles at the very American border. The restrictions that apply in the United States did not apply to him. Very soon, his Caesar’s Palace became a favorite vacation spot for almost all of Hollywood. They say that salad was born here, which was later called “Caesar”.
It was in 1924. The institution was in full swing celebrating Independence Day. Suddenly, the appetizer began to end in the kitchen. Then a fateful decision was made. Finely chopped Romano leaves mixed with olive oil. undercooked eggs, garlic, lemon juice and parmesan went there. Worcester sauce was also added to it, as well as fried and sliced white bread. The "modest" restaurateur called the dish by his name. Since then began his campaign around the world.
